I'm a first-timer planning to come solo all the way from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: I came to know about Burning Man just some two weeks ago when reading about Temporal Autonomous Zones, and the whole idea of this thing sounds awesome!
So, I've been reading around and thinking about how to prepare myself and be as self-reliant as possible, but I sure could use some direct advice from the experts.
Thing is, I'll be arriving and leaving by plane (to and from Reno) and, to add a little spice to it, I'll have to leave to Spain (not home!) on Saturday, so I'll probably be leaving Burning Man on Friday.
And here is my basic plan so far: rent a small car at Reno (or somewhere else) and, ahm, live in it. I figured that wouldn't be too expensive, would spare me the complication of bringing a tent along, and would essentially make me self-reliant for getting there with all that water and food and leaving early. Plus it will serve to lock my stuff and provide me with radio, lights and other car comforts.
So, my questions are:
- Will the rental company mind if I take their car into the desert?
- Is this just stupid? Meaning: is it simply impossible to manage living in a car out there? (I'm a pretty small guy, don't think I'll mind sleeping in it)
I'm still not sure about showers and overall hygiene under this plan. The best self-reliant solution I thought so far is to do it "the French way" with a little towel and a basin. But it does sound a little lame..
The alternatives I see are renting an RV (way too expensive and, overall, sounds too much) and going along with a theme camp. Theme camp sounds a little awkward because I'll have to be leaving early anyways, but maybe that's nothing compared to living in a car..?
Good to be here at ePlaya! (can't wait for the physical one though..
Cheers
Milton
