How about American Spirit Tobacco rollers on the playa

Post by sensi63 » Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:50 am

It would be great if all you smokers could roll and smoke your American Spirit on the Playa, share it with friends, and politely tell the LEO that, no sir, this is tobacco, it is not a crime yet insofar as I know. After awhile, I would think that unless they smell weed, they would leave people alone. Make sure you are not carrying anything on your person however...I think its too bad that 200 miles from anywhere, they will hassle/search/fine/arrest you even when you are otherwise acting as a responsible human being. The most intoxicated person I saw all week was obviously drunk, wandering through back streets wanting to know "where can I find the bus to town?"...
Don't do anything on the Playa you would not do in Downtown Reno insofar as substances are concerned, and never consent to being searched. All the freedom we experience is very threatening to some people. Don't be easy meat.

I would be leary about running up to an officer and spraying him with an unknown liquid.
.....Duh!
Yeah, when there are so many known liquids that I would love to hose an officer down with...

I don't know why people insist on rolling joints that look like a prop from a Cheech and Chong movie. Using a cigarette rolling/packing device makes joints that look like cigarettes. Here in somewhat more enlightened Europe, people commonly mix tobacco in with whatever other material they will be enjoying in their cigarette and blur the situation a little more.

Last thing. Do not underestimate the abilities of undercover LEOs. I doubt that the really good ones are sent to BM unless they are actually on a case that takes them there, but the narc-lings can be just as dangerous if their pack leader has trained them to hunt well. It is also probably used as a training assignment for LEO's as BM is such a target rich environment...

That said, I noticed that LEO presence was definitely down from the year that I percieved as the most heavy handed (2001), but I missed 2003-2006, so my data is incomplete.

Hee hee hee... they win.

They do send a lot of LE out there, and the undercover ones are scary good. That's why they're there. LOTS this year. And they looked like... well... If I didn't know they were LE I'd say they... um.... well...

When you see them and think "Man, he looks more burner than I" you know, that's fucking something to give you pause..

ANd this year - They were out there in force. I saw them all over. Boatloads of SUV's and carts. Even a couple kewl artcars. When we worked greeters, we watched them set up just inside town, and roust people for open containers, weed, or whatnot.

True, those busted would be candidates for the darwin award, but it really blew my mind, watching them visually searching every vehicle, and pulling people out to bust them. Sheesh! Welcome to 1984, folks!

Sounds like someone is living in the past!:)

Just because a "law compliance officer" is there to "facilitate regulation of public statutes" does not mean that they are the glans of some glistening totalitarian apparatus deftly zeroing in on any potential opening. That would be giving them too much credit. They still seem to rely on ambush tactics and luck most of the time.

It pays to be aware and not call attention to any potentialy illegal activities that you don't want thouroghly investigated.

And pass the Victory Gin!

Sure... you have a light for my victory cig... oh Goldstein! The tobacco fell out. It's those dirty Eurasians. Could never trust them. Glad we have the Noble East Asians on our side.

Living in the unfuture? That would be double plus ungood. Thoughtcrime! is good think we have mebers of the Junior Anti-Sex league to watch you. Will we see you at the Community Centre for the 2 Minutes Hate?

Otherwise the Thought Police will ship you off to war to fight our enemy the Eur... East Asians. Evil Goldsteinian degenerates, the lot of them. Thank Big Brother the Eurasians are there by our sides in this noble battle against the East Asian Hoardes.

AHEM!! Sorry.

That whole thing at the fallopian tubes right after the gate opened this year was really sad. Seriously - they had their own "checkpoints" set up you had to drive thru, and they were looking in each car to see what they could see. Never thought the fuzz would do something so blatant. WHich leads to the axiom...

Brc is home, just like your other hometown is home. If the cops would bust you for something there, don't think they can't, or won't, for something here.

Oh - they're looking to emulate that bust years ago when they caught the fugitive who was wanted for various life terminating offenses, burgurlary, grand theft, mayhem (now *that's* a scary thing to be convicted of), etc.

What sort of privacy do we have in regards to LEO? Can LEO enter your marked off camp area without probable cause?

I don't do any kind of drugs, but what are the laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages on the playa ie: can i enjoy a cold beer while im walking around, or only at camp? I didnt see anything about that in the guide, and I just want to have a good experience and avoid any potential problems. :D

On another thread someone wrote about smoking pot out on the playa. They were busted, and the LEOs brought him back to his campsite and ransacked his tent. According to that story, the LEOs then tossed everyone elses tent in the camp for good measure.

I showed that story to a lawyer friend. His eyes got big and he said that this was so unConstitutional it was ridiculous. He said even homeless bums sleeping in a park are protected against illegal search and seizure. He said the LEOs better have search warrants.

I had a girl come up to me last year Thursday night. I was in a group all from my camp probably about 12-15 people. I was the brightest colored and by far the blink-est. The girl had no backpack, no bike... no gear to speak of. She was wearing a striped polo shirt and jeans. She also was a complete darkwad. She insistently asked me several times if I had any illicit substances to sell her. I told her no several times and then she asked me "well what about your friends." At this point I was simply annoyed and said "Look why don't you find someone else to harass. We can't help you."

A shotgun mike is very different from a wide angle speaker.
Any evidence of this type of product existing, much less being widespread?

I'm guessing your serious....yes, you can walk around with alcohol, just don't give any to a minor. Nevada is a crap state for drug laws, but they love to keep people drunk 24/7!

I didn't think so.
And I have a new police supply catalog right here.

And along with a narrow focus mike, comes very touchy aiming.
Would be fun trying to pick up individuals against the background hum of brc.
Rifle scopes aren't unknown for this type.

A parabolic or long mike could be used to fish for conversations, tents being acoustically transparent, if you hid them somehow, and were bored enough to try.
Even the small ones look obvious unless concealed though.

The better stuff only shows up in rather specialized catalogs, but you can't beat the laws of physics.

I really want to take a crapload of oregeno, throw it in a backpack, and go see this guy. When asked why I'm taking so much oregeno to Burning Man, I'll say that my camp is cooking pizzas every day the size of a minivan. I'll snag one of those camcorder sunglasses and record every LEO that's there doing the undercover thing, then print the pictures on flyers and hand them out to everyone.

The flyer will be labeled 'Have you seen this undercover LEO?'
