I was shocked the gastro docs said soy is bad, and almond and rice were too fiberous for many/most they said! (they bashed coffee and cigs too, arg)

I feel like a wet blanket here, but no joke, I felt MUCH better after stopping soy

Anti, yup, those docs ("burner doc(s)!") told me soy is very effective for women in drug form, for all sorts of female health reasons.
b/c I am male we never discussed too much of that but I'm not surprised one bit you drink it for breast cancer.

LOL, the gastro's said "a healthy heart diet is a fart diet" the list they gave me was, uh, basically bland hospital like foods, medium/low fiber...interestingly, not so bad and many foods I don't like were on the "No" list. Fried, spicy, (onion family :() Jel oh...I like it but too much sugar! Does anyone know how to make a healthy knox gelatin copycat w/flavor(s)? (I can surf it too but not always evident)

Next food bashing, hm, corn sugars?! (I feel a lot better... or "non-zombie" slowly going to honey..I have a major sweet tooth, yikes)
It'd be nice to hear of normally/lower priced? alternative healthier sweets, :lol: for now I can get many honey flavors, for now...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a happier note...time for a long walk and soon the Sun will shine longer and brighter; count down to spring is always in my noggin...hahaha...
Moonrise, I do NOT eat, drink or consume soy because it makes me produce more estrogen. My cancer was feeding on estrogen. Soy would have fed it more. NO soy. Nope, not at all. Bad for me in particular. I was on an estrogen blocker for five years, and these days, no soy is simply a good idea for me.
i just use soy cause i like it better than the others. often i'll mix my granola in to yogurt instead, with a little honey.
me, with my family history of every king of female issues you could imagine, its the safest bet. I love cheese and won't give it up. When i lived in upsate (new york) I drank and ate all kinds of milk because the amish (sp?) don't believe in giving hormones to cattle). But in TX I have to shop at expensive places and get half as much to make sure. I just don't want to get more endrometrious or ovariary or other female cancers that all run in my family.
As a side note, that is also why I don't take birth control though it would regulate my cycle. I took it once and it sent my hormones so far out of normal.... lets just say even I hated to be around me.
AntiM, woops, read that soy comment bassackwards, duh! :oops: 10-4, LOL
I fear the soy corporations will/have won a new fda rating for soy and hide it as a "modified food starch" in countless food products...bummer...they even add it to some olive oils!
I was told by trusted health nuts, cannola, one I forget? and soy bean oil are all toxic...& grape seed, olive, corn, safflower, sunflower (and some others I forgot) these are good choices (grape seed handles highest temps for fried food etc)
daratheresa and everybody, I think I've bashed soy enough to leave it to the individual to "google it" as junglesmacks would say, haha.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's a laugh and a half...slipped on the ice while out walkin'... actually, just after my walk, and I landed HARD on my pack of cigs! Haha, the soft pack saved my friggin' hand n wrist from breaking and who says smoking is bad for your health :lol:
Now, tonight, over 50,000+ tourists are descending on my ski town, grid lock! Traffic jams galore...only have a few and some smashed ones left..screw it...and fyi, I can't even bum a cig from these tourists! They are mostly jocks & don't smoke!

btw, I was impressed at the lack of smoking I noticed at burning man, at least for the most part

eh, quietly cutting back (whether I want to or not!) stranded for now... :|

(PS Santa?...can you send an evil elf with some cigs? asap! or just throw 'em down the smoke stack on a "fly by",,,, oh around 8 am-ish on 25th!...I been gooood & just think, this will prove you exist! as long as the cigs are real, we can always pretend)

my super-food-power-breakfast today: plain yogurt with peanut butter, dark chocolate granola, wheat germ, bee pollen, and doused liberally in honey.

it's actually not half bad. lotsa honey, though, cause plain wheat germ tastes like butt. :)

pigged out this weekend but did hit the treadmill yesterday. I am going to throw out all the sugary crap my mom insisted I take home with me. Goodbye lacey cookies, goodbye mini cheesecakes bites...so long biscotti!

I found this Discussion from about a year ago. The author is a screen writer in L.A. Sounds like something that should be on this thread.

Yikes! I had no idea. Kind'a funny, and makes a valid point. But gosh, I'm glad I have not bothered to plug in a TV since I moved to this house -- eight years ago. :!:

Dr P! I was expecting a SEXERCISE CLASS SCHEDULE!

As far as I know, all of us can see our dicks and twats.
Hollywood can be vicious eh?

Glad you chucked out the fattening food lucky420, we know how that can be, especially if the munchy gremlins sneak up :roll:

I drove some young, new, burner kids around doing errands yesterday, they woulda glommed down those holiday goodies, LOL.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They're good kids, just started going to TTITD in the last few years, early over 21+ age ranges...technically not kids. They helped me configure some pc crap :D and I helped them with some wheels. Plus we had some good laughs!
They play all sorts of musical intruments, bango, guitar, brass, not just drums. I showed them eplaya, b/c they need to learn from burners who can advise them about best musical instrument choices and care for playa conditions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I dun reel good this year Ma! Haha, I had one small plate of holiday food on the 25th...I'm gettin' tougher, haha.
Only 83 days of old man winter left...don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out :twisted:

...i ate like a pig at christmas dinner. and i don't feel bad about it. not that i'll be doing it again any time soon, but a big-ass feast every now and again, maybe a few times a year, isn't going to hurt anything much. if we're so over-fixated on eating only healthy that we forget how to enjoy things and indulge occasionally then i think we've missed the point of being "healthy". ;)

I think you earned it! Two little kids and everything else, including the fact you made the feast, I say go for it!

I hope everyone is making it through the nasty weather in the news...my pipes burst, might be inside the concrete slab floor...Yipes!....flooding the house; old man jack is here helping me figure it out...do-acracy time, big time, immediacy and all that non-mysterious default world fun? Finally got back on the Nordic Trak yesterday. Portion control is easier where there's no pizza. Trying to fill up on salad before scooping into the heavier stuff. I did Weight Watchers online years ago and it worked pretty well with the accountability. Looking for a Blackberry ap for something like that.

That looks like a good site jk. Now that I've got the exercise habit down somewhat, it is time to start the old food diary and portion control...fuck

Plumbing done, snow shoveled out, phew! Clear enough for a walk after work.

Portion control...1/3 of the battle.
Content of portion and exercise, the other 2/3 rds.

Slowly winnin' the battle.

I used to have a Nordic track, was tricky to learn at first.
Good machine Jelly, they do work well.

good to see ya' at EFC jkisha!

Thanks for the welcome...now I'm going to make a slight correction to your post...actually, 'what' you eat is not important at all to losing weight...it is strictly portion size...or to be more precise...calories. As long as you are burning more calories than you are consuming, you will lose weight. Even if all you eat is junk food.

Now I'm not saying it is healthy, but you will still lose weight.

Yeah, it depends whether you want to lose fat weight or muscle weight.

Ooops! I was going to add more, but I need to get ready for departing to my brother's for New Year's. My ride is on its way.

Funny! hahaha...I could never do that, the sugar *crashes* would thrash me

I'm glad the T*winkie diet mentioned he ate SOME fresh fruit or vegies!!!!
My life is too unpredictable to count calories, I can't do it, I'm on day dreamer time 8)

Walks, swims and a better basic diet are my plan, I cannot move too much nor too little, if that makes sense...my spine injury is unpredictable.
1 1/2 years ago I discovered a euro machine gizmo that saved me from complete failure...wow! I finally felt well enough and went to burning man and things are turning around for me, slowly but surely.

I brought the weird euro gizmo with me, one seriously disbaled burner tried it and it helped him so much, after two days he was walking more!
MY. MIND. BLEW. truly, I was stunned, the machine did the same for me but it took 8+ weeks! I will always bring it to BM, always. It's gentle and easy to use and it stops the "fight or flight" triangular muscle from "splinting" the spine, it gave me back 50% of my life. Sheesh, I feel like this should be in the "eplaya hospital thread"...let's say the physical therapy corner of the fitness club, shall we? LOL

Happy New Year! OooooH! AaaaH! Fireworks are exploding in front of my shack! Must go look see closer...walkin' out the door......~)'(~......`*`

well, i've been sucking at the exercise part of things. just no motivation at all. i'll get it back eventually, i'm sure. trying not to stress about it.

i've been doing awesome nutritionally, though. i think cutting as many processed foods as i can is really helping. we only did take-out food ONCE this month, i managed to cook something at home the rest of the time. and that one time we ordered subs and pizza made me feel like crap and left me with no desire to do it again any time soon.

i've been doing things like making a giant pot of chili or soup or something and then splitting it in to two or three meals and freezing it 'til i need it. it really makes it easy to turn down the temptation of ordering out when i'm tired or busy or not feeling well, as all i have to do it re-heat it and i have a full meal with minimal effort. score. :)

Been on the treadmill everyday this year. Today I officially started counting calories and right now I am really hungry. at 850 calories right now so I figure I can have about 400 for dinner. I will probably go to bed really early tonight...

Good for you!!! Remember, the more you exercise, the more you can eat! (and still lose weight, if that is your goal)

Speaking of weight and goals...what are yours? Lose? Maintain? Gain? If lose, how many lbs per week? Have you determined your BMR so you know how many calories you can actually eat?
