He is gone from this forum, and according to other posts, he will be off here for a while.
I don't think I have ever seen a more accepting group of people on a forum such as this one, ever. I think this is because many of us have met, or may meet each other at some point on this dusty road of ours.
Should the OP actually show up on the playa this year, he may make some friends here and earn the respect of many of us. I would like to be the first to offer him a cold PBR should he show up.

Oh, I would if I thought I could get away with it . I'm still operating under the old constraints of *gasp* you deleted a syllable!!!! Deleting anything but outright spam is still a sin according to some, and while I bend the edges of that old policy, I feel I still have to walk a fine line.Bob wrote:You're very charitable. Hey, what's the worst that could happen? You get fired from a job you don't get paid for? Then you could just come here and post what you want and have fun not being insulted and yelled at.AntiM wrote:Oh, I would if I thought I could get away with it . It's always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission. And sometimes things just have to be done for the greater good.....AntiM wrote: Oh, I would if I thought I could get away with it . If that were the cas, yes. But it doesn't seem to be the case here. The posts in question are offensive to the majority of the eplaya community. Not to mention the poor impression and vial tone they set for new members of the community.Bay Bridge Sue wrote:... like deleting individual posts.. and entire threads?...
Oh, it offended me... so I deleted those posts... I'm so sorry.
Of coursse, it's EASIEST to be the one who GRANTS the permission... then forgiveness isn't necessary.

What's the correct course of action to provide the greatest good? Is it Ethical? Correct?AntiM wrote:The slippery slope is a dangerous path. I'm already on it.
Now, define those terms... so it applies to EVERYBODY. Not an easy thing. As I once told my employees, each of whom had different issues on a rule that came down at work...
We are mere mortals... we try our best, but we make mistakes. If you don't like them, well, I'm sorry... and fuck you!
(Yeah, my employees got a kick outta that one!)

The posts may be offensive, but is it a matter of quantity? Quality? Individually, none violates the TOS. If so, they would be deleted already. Therefore, what becomes the criteria? Too many? Who gets the axe then? Then what? Time frame? What becomes of our top ten posters? Slippery, slippery slope.jkisha wrote:If that were the cas, yes. But it doesn't seem to be the case here. All we end up with is more rules. Censorship. More rules.
The new members? Surely they can learn what is and is not douchery here. We don't have to hand them a checklist do we? I thought we already had one in place in the TOS and guidelines. How far in babysitting do we want to go?

Some sort of rating system might be handy on here. Users would be able to rate up/down threads on their usefulness, so garbage posts get sorted to the bottom of the pile. Of course that depends on changing/upgrading the bulletin board software and I doubt that will happen.AntiM wrote:The posts may be offensive, but is it a matter of quantity? Quality? The board needs to be upgraded. Rating system would be great.
And AntiM, I like to think the reason people are chosen to be moderators is that they have the intelligence and fairness to make those judgement calls when necessary. And no matter how "fair" a moderator is, you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time. Then you just delete their account.
(Just kidding)

I agree, and of course the regulars here know that is is less than a dozen people that stir the pot and antagonize posters. Outside the spam, and ads by first timers this dozen people or so create 99% of the drama that we as mods have to deal with. Lots of discussion goes on behind the curtains and the same names come up again and again.jkisha wrote:The board needs to be upgraded. Rating system would be great.

Upgrades are in the works - I do not have a lot of details on the final product but know its in the works.

Holy smokes...did I read that right? An upgrade to the eplaya could be in the works?
Quick call 911, I'm about to fall over in shock! Seriously...it's about time. Of course any upgrade will be met with the usual resistance, bitching, whining, and complaining...hell I may even be one of them doing it...but in the end if it takes this place off life support and it thrives again...I hope it gets done.
It really is all about community. And while we may not always get along...I would really miss this board if it went away.

Hey Trishntek, what would make you say that? I always loved and respected DVD! I have read every word that he posted, be they cut and paste or right from his own brilliant mind. I saw the proposed upgrade months ago. I don't think it will be swift, but it is in the works. I'd rather have them take their time than rush it. I'm comfy either way. Or maybe resigned.Kinetic V wrote:Holy smokes...did I read that right? An upgrade to the eplaya could be in the works?

Seriously? You're whining about a ratings system?Isotopia wrote:Oh great. Another proposal for tyranny by the majority. Some sort of rating system might be handy on here.
Content is king. You post good content. No bullshit, tell it like it is statements, and some of your posts are almost legendary for hitting where it hurts with the truth.
You worry for nothing. Now shut up, quit whining, and go find another annoying pic to put at the bottom of your posts or go shop for shoes or something.
