It's up to the people using it and the llc, to decide if that's what they want.

It may be a very interesting case study to watch the forum deteriorate.

There are already plenty of teen gamer and camaro forums that fill the bill though.

lay off of antiM or i'll Nuke you with my Snark Bombs.

Good thing I have Gyre on plonk these days, huh? The other mods watch him, not me.
Although I can read him if I choose. I choose ... not to bother. Gyre, go right ahead, bad mouth me all you like. Have fun.

Poor Poor Me, I Got Caught Lying, Gyre Is So Mean

Post by gyre » Sun Jun 19, 2011 7:02 am

Was there a point to this, other than playing the martyr?

I can't believe anyone is fooled by your vague lies and refusal to back up anything.

I've watched many people on here attacked the same way by others.
How big a moron do you have to be, to not question the motivation of such vitriol?

Actually, AntiM, refusing to be chased off eplaya by your lies and calling you for lying, isn't really badmouthing you.

I am reminding people that you have exposed what you are.

There is plenty I could say about you, but saying that you are the kind of person that would do this, is bad enough, isn't it?

If everything you said about me was true, it wouldn't make you any less deliberately vicious.

I treated you as a friend.

I don't think you have friends.

perhaps the best lesson for the newbs would be to show them how two old timers can get past this bullshit, and kiss and make up since it's really not a positive energy thats being expended on this silliness.

have a drink together and just fuck this shit, life is too short.

i've said my piece....i'll stay out of it, but jesus christ, if you step back, and observe from a distance i think you'd find that this is ridiculous and not worth the gnashing of teeth.

The noobs who are chased away are those who demonstrate a lazy dependency and a refusal to be taught. For their own safety I hope they never reach The Playa. I find you all to be wonderfully conscientious guardians, like it or not.

This shit is real, noobs. And it's better to be bitch-slapped on ePlaya than cold-cocked on The Playa. Mother Nature has no sympathy for you.
Wonderful reasoning here. It isn't just a rave where everything is free. The snark is a good alert to those who have misconceptions about where they are going. I stay away from most of the opinion threads to avoid getting abraded by what I choose as a way to spend my free time. I guess as a consequence, I don't see this supposed breakdown in the community, and on the contrary have observed this year some of the new folks being great additions to the information/help bank. +1 to My Dear Friend.
Totally agree with both of you!

Simon, you're just making clear you don't know what is going on.

Anyone that didn't have boo to say when she ranted about me being a con man, etc etc really doesn't have anything to say when I respond.

Her lies stand.
So will my responses.

And the whispers and smears continue, only sneakier now.

Bother me when you finish objecting to that.

Sorry, nothing subjective about this at all.

I demanded fair play from her with her lies.
You'd think she would welcome the invitation to back her stories up.

Only more lies and martyrdom.

I'm not fooled.
You can be, if you like.

If you think her behavior is acceptable, don't come to me about my responding.

I am baffled that anyone is fooled by this game of hers.

I care fuck all what someone totally without respect for other people thinks of me.
I won't let her destroy my trust in other people or theirs in me, with her lies, if I can do anything about it though.

You should be asking yourself why you aren't as bothered as I am.

i love it when people tell me i dont know what they're talking about.

i know alot more than anyone ever gives me credit for, and hence they always underestimate me.

i am a pretty good judge of character, even from afar, and i observe as a part of my daily routine, the foibles and follies of the human condition.

we are like rats in a maze, very predictable. And based on this working knowledge of human psychology and behavioral patterns, i have to say that your quest for "satisfaction" will only end in a self-fulfilling tailspin into needless anger and further aggravation.

have fun with that.

Geez, I step away for a moment.... back on topic please.

This certainly should not be about me nor Gyre's beef about me.

Best advice for newbs: eplaya is not The Playa.

Scroll over the emoticons under the avatar of the username. One will be "ignore". If you select that, the posts from that user will be hidden. Although you will always have to option to "view page with ignored user".
If someone has words you do not like, you can respond, or you can walk away. You do NOT have to respond, you do NOT have to have the last post. An epic flame war only gets the thread locked down.

Back on topic, I do not want to delete posts here.

Thank you,
M

Hell, I've been guilty myself of some of the snark that drove them away. Is this right? Not sure. Just hope it doesn't go away as it has been a great source of inspiration, information and entertainment for me. Thanks everyone.
I know what you mean, and it could definitely affect those who aren't used to forum like these. I'm relatively new here and find the snark refreshing and entertaining, but then I've been on quite a few forums that aren't intended for "nurturing" new members. Sometimes it degraded to the state you've mentioned, with cliques and stuff like that. The core problem some of those forums was that some of the people "in the club" were also moderators; so "dissent" would be quickly quashed.

I think the moderation on this forum does a lot for preventing the breakdown of the forum into a "club" for only certain people. Hopefully it remains that way.

we are family, and therefore, highly disfunctional.

sit back and enjoy the awkward, yet somehow precious moments that only a close relative can provide.

but all in all, balanced out, the best group of fucknuts to talk to concerning the burning man project.

i try not to pick too hard, i do it with humor, albeit twisted and i apologize when i'm wrong and/or overstepped the boundaries of bad taste, since i went way past good taste years ago, but snark is ESSENTIAL to understanding the actual playa, and the ability to let go of your pre-concieved notions. Time FLIES when you're having Pun. The Jokes, the rumors, the One-liners and Snark that whip back and forth like naked chinese acrobats pulling triple entendres on each other without a net....thats the shit, my friends.

the most intelligent of assholes are out there, doling out spankings of Wretched Wisdom with love, not hate.

sorry we're so crusty...virgins, after a year of trying to get that shit (the DUST) out of and off of you and your belongings you will realize why we are so fucking crusty..me personally, i gave up trying to clean my "Burning Man" shit about 10 years ago...i bring the same clothes, suitcase, toothbrush, razor blades, everything that i used previously because there is no point.

i digress.

where was i?

crusty....deep down, you'll find the crusty ones might end up all right, give it right back to them, use your wit, your words and deeds to stand your ground, then you'll find that we're a bunch of squishy connoli and creampuffs...crusty, dusty, but soon, so will you be too...

and get back to me after you've tasted the seductive allure and the power of the BullHorn on the open playa on a headfull of acid, when previously you've had public speaking issues...cathartic is an understatement.

Hm.
1--Part of the problem might be a difference of mode. The people who hang out here regularly regard this as a "home." People in search of information think that we are here to give information. So, people come into home and start treating us like the help and our hackles go up.
2--Any group (at least when it gets past Dunbar's Number) has a wall around it--people have to prove their worth. What happens here is better than lieing naked in a coffin talking about your sexual experiences. (Although, I suppose belong to Skull and Bones does lead to greater opportunity to come into power.) The actual thing, that you don't notice is that a lot of newbs just have to show a little respect and a little initiative and after three posts it's all hail, fellow, well met. I agree that no one coming to the board cold can know this, but it's still true.
3--Snark is one of the games we play to keep us entertained; this means that we will be here when questions are asked. Otherwise we'd be at other boards and this place would be neophytes exchanging rumors.
4--I think that the "Welcome Wagon" in the greeters sub-forum is a positive development. Ironically, that was basically started by jkisha.
5--Dr. Helix, to whatever extent you want to, you can not only give greenhorns pertinent advice, but you can also tell the rest of us that we're going to far. I'm sure you can think of gentle ways of reminding us. You can't control our behavior, but even a single person who's in your corner can turn the experience of the board around.
6--(Actually a variant of 2) This can be quite a generous community, therefore we want to keep leeches out. (Generosity to leeches is not a pretty thing.) Yes, this translates to hurtful at times. On playa, most of these people would give you the shirt off their backs.
7--If you think we are all really nasty uncaring, go to the "General Discussion" sub-forum and read three pages of the "Fuck" thread.

Thank you friend. It's not the individuals I was concerned about. It was just that it felt that a thread had been overtaken by core people embroiled in some controversey known only to them. This would seem to be the place where PMing would be a good alternative. And I've seen this in other threads too. Just hope that kind of thing doesn't overshadow the good that this forum provides. I'm a huge advocate of this place and want to continue to feel that way.

Geez it is not rocket science...
I don't know which part of this post I agree with and like the best.

You know, I still read over the survival guide and first timers guide each year. There's always at least one helpful tip I am re-reminded about.

Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

It's worth remembering that many people coming on here, have been burners for a long time.
It should be a concern that so many lurk and don't post.

I hear from many people that leave this forum.
The reason is always unpleasantness.

Not everyone is able to come across as they wish to, and text is difficult at best anyway.
You might be surprized at the name that is mentioned the most, as reason for leaving.
(It's not AntiM either, not even close, though she has been mentioned by more than one person.)

As an experienced burner/new eplaya poster, I agree with JoshuaOne and Dr Helix.

Every internet forum on the 'nets has its share of assholes who think that they own the site just because they have been a member for a few years and feel compelled to post in every thread, even when they clearly have no interest going into the thread other than to remind everybody how long they've been around or to reverse-troll.

Snark is good; but also remember that you can ignore them and remind yourself that the majority of the people on the real playa are the reason you keep coming back.
