As bb pokes her head out of the trap door... looks at all the cobwebs and dust... the dark, uncleaned fonts and chimneys of the oil lanterns... the dust on the old, noble bartop which has had many a burner spill their drinks (and other things) thereupon...

Looks at the barback, where the infamous espresso maker of gilded bronze sat, now a forlorn hole next to the cracked mirror... Where all the bottles of top shelf sat in the well, begging to be drunk... the racks where glasses once hung... and at the immense stone fireplace, it's grate dark, its massive flagstones gone cold, forlorn and forgotten...

She crawls back into the bunker... a major tear in her eye... missing all that once was here, the family that begat theme camps and bars and villages and friendships and marriages and shakes her head slowly, letting the trap door slowly, with a squeal of unused and unoiled hinges, sttle back into the dust of the floor.

As it should always have been...

(Looks over at where the old rocking chair holding the NEB once was... now a bleak, empty space, no candles in the candelabra, water stains on the floor, and a shot glass, which may have held whiskey in it at one time, now dessicated with a stain of what may have been booze coarsely gripping the bottom...)

I think I know where there's a case of lamp oil and some ancient and warm PBR...

Oh HELL... a half full bottle of Makers was sitting behind the small reach in under the left bar. Covered in dust, the label is half gone, but... Party Deluxe!!!

Someone bring some bar mops... a broom... some hazmat suits... maybe we can open the old girl up again... just maybe??

My first bar experiences here,,,,,,,,,got my ass handed to me by a lot of folks in here............but, ultimately, (for me at least), it worked out fine.

This place will always feel more like home than the newer bars, if only because it's where I met most of you. And yes... those who have moved on are sorely missed. Nice to see some life in the old place.

(Sets portable industrial sized coffee thermoses on edge of scrubbed bartop, drops off boxes of donuts, and throws some duraflame into the cobweb filled flagstone fireplace and the potbelly stoves)

Certainly, there is/was a big difference in the bars..............I'd not pin them better or worse, just sort of different.

So... should I go back to the storeroom, polish up the old espresso maker, see if I can break the rusty locks off our private shelves, and maybe order another case of lantern oil, coleman fuel, and call our suppliers at Absinthe R Us? Maybe even start excavating all the underground tunnels, and see if the satellite 20 track stereo is still up to pulling in a signal or 2...

(goes back to cleaning and polishing the backbar mirror)

This place, IMHO, is the "seedy" bar, for non p.c. jokes and blatant flirting.........for drinkin, discussion, conspiracy, and off color shennanigans.......

and, nothin wrong with two bars, or even 3. Folks, can wander, wear different hats in different bars........
