also, the Golden Gate Bridge is having a "jump in and swim" for Cancer right after the burn weekend.

You swim to Baker beach, followed by a costume party.

Well it looks like Playa "Dis-Info-Mation" is getting a head start this year.

Sorry to hear your having a bad day.

How many times have you been to Burning Man?
From what I hear its supposed to be a life changing experience. Hopefully you'll have better luck this year in achieving that.

To everyone else...my husband and I are really looking forward to going. C-ya there!

Hey Yank, lighten up - you're headed for an event with the overall theme of radical self-expression. Take it as it comes and work on an open and accepting attitude. ask em what they want for the Florida place, it could be a great deal.

Arrive early

While the man maybe set light at midnight (but I thought it was earlier, but who's looking at their watch), it is advisable to get to The Man just after sunset Saturday evening (about 8pm, maybe 8:30) otherwise you will NOT get a front row view, and typically with the tall people always arriving first, being second row (or 10th row) you don't get a good view of the fire dancers pre-burn show - worth seeing - so arrive early.
Of course the firework show and the burn itself, is visible to all, now matter how far you are back. And this is where being front row you get to feel the full heat of the burn! Even at 200ft back - phew, it must be intense for the people closer.

PS Hang on... -- My camera has the time stored for each picture....
It seems for 2002 and 2003 the pre-burn show started just after 9pm each time. The fireworks just before 10pm, and the Man started to burn at (near enough) 10pm (and I have compensated for my TimeZone, and I'm anal about setting the time accurately).

PPS After setting your weiner on fire one year, you still have it for the next year?

Okay... here's a question--- why do you need a "front row" view when the man is visable from the entire city?

and for some honest advice.

-- when your in the first 10 rows of people, you are told to sit down, and frankly we missed all of the fire performance a couple of burns just due to sitting and not being able to see.
best bet is to hang back a bit where you can stand, there you will get a good view. that way you can move too.

-- remember to pick out a homing beacon during the week. once the man burns, your 3:00/6:00/9:00 orientation is gone. (make sure you have water too).

Personally I think trying to get a good seating position is more work than it's worth.

Spend all week making friends with some camp with a bus or something. Or bring a ladder.

Or better yet go over to the Temple and get a front row seat while everyone else is over at the Man.
