Talk about taking anthropomorphism (and hypocrisy) to extremes.

I eagerly await Wednesday specifically to get my grimy mitts on the Dining section (almost as much as the Sunday exercise in treeacide), I scour the thing from cover to cover, and honestly I didn't even pick up on this was supposed to convey a sexy pose (and that's something that usually doesn't go over my head). Granted when I read the article I salivated and did think of licking one from hea..er, neck cavity to toe and then devouring it but not really in that way (and in that regard I like my meat with some motion). Necrophlia? Bwahahaha

"It's downright offensive, not just to people who care about animals but almost to everyone. It's a plucked, beheaded, young chicken in a young pose,"

Speaking for myself I don't mind the plucked part but I prefer my mates with a head on their shoulders (in fact, that's what attracts me) and young ain't all it's cracked up to be, besides, WTF is a "young pose"? Furthermore, PETA, if you're the arbiter of what's offensive to me I'll eat my cat. In the future please confine your efforts to picketing KFC (which should be outlawed basis the stench of grease alone), enhancing fur coats and getting gullible starlets to doff their clothes.

......and again, I lament the promotion of Sifton.

It is shit like this that really irks me. Vegan PETA fascists are a bi-product of a modern society that allows people the LUXURY of not eating meat. Remove the niceties of trucking, shipping, and air freight and then we can see how well and how long a vegan would survive a fucking Michigan winter, or a month in the Nevada desert. These fucking asshats are the result of other people's efforts in the overall scheme of things are are a bunch of arrogant fucks who are clueless to the reality of the requirements for human subsistence without modern delivery systems.

Put them in the fucking artic for a month and then lets see how fucking fast they eat meat and wear fur. Fuck yer soy!

I don't know about "good intentions." I find in this group, and in other groups with all sorts of causes and all different places on the political spectrum, that there's a certain amount of ... well, not joy..., how about "moral self-pleasuring"in their decryals (I know that's misspelled) that makes me wonder if it's the cause or the ability to censure others that is their driving force.

YMMV

They're just a bunch of assholes hiding behind the banner of protecting animals to justify their moronic behavior. They pull outrageous and offensive stunts, sometimes going WAY over the line, and then shrug it off with the "but we're just trying to protect poor defenseless animals" line. You know what? In response, I'm going to go eat another chicken this weekend. Yeah, that's right, I was going to have a salad. But now I think I'll have a chicken sandwich for lunch. And maybe some fried chicken later. How do you like that, PETA? You just got a chicken killed!

I was thinking like a TurDucKin...

Would that be a Cat-ird?

One of the reasons they outlawed commercial butchers from selling rabbit for so long here is when you skin a cat, it looks just like a skinned rabbit... and there were an awful lot of alley rabbits being sold...

That is very true. I loathe animal cruelty - but I can't stand the freaks at PETA.. Though I will admit to coveting one of their T-Shirts from a few years ago - it said - "I am not a nugget" with a picture of a chicken on it. I about pissed myself...

That can be said of most urban/suburban food consumers: Vegan/Omni/Carnivore. To most, food is just something that shows up at Ralph's or McDonalds. Should the modern delivery mechanism break down, most everyone is screwed. I think the fundamental disconnect from A to C how we feed ourselves is royally fucked up. It's lazy and lacks any manner of self-reliance. I'm not a fan.

I'm not sure you'd get much argument from reasonable vegetarians/vegans from your rant. The PeTA folks are a whole other breed that make things harder for the rest of the folks. Picture evangelical Christians who are pushing political agendas. Then picture the next guy who comes along and lets slip his beliefs. Kerpow! Sucks to be him.

Earlier this week I was called a "monster" and unfriended on FakeBook because I suggested to a friend (gee, she seemed so normal before this happened) that she went too far in demanding severe punishment for people who abandoned their pets after losing their home to foreclosure. I explicitly stated that I did not condone the conduct, but thought that some consideration should be given to the circumstances. Ugly explosion.

As someone who kills and butchers most of the meat I eat each year, I find the biggest part of this issue is that most people are both physically and intellectually isolated from the source of their foods.

Other than farmers and hunters, most folks don't understand the chain of events that results in the food on their table or grasp the distances it was transported. Even many meat eaters don't actually grasp the concept that their meat didn't just fall off the animal in little plastic wrapped bundles. They may know it on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level they prefer to keep that concept buried. Butcher shops are hidden away behind closed doors in the back of the store these days. It makes people susceptible to crackpots like PETA.

You would never have seen this stuff in the not too distant past - folks were just happy to have food to eat and were none too picky about it. In many places that is still the case - notice how these nut jobs don't get even a toe hold in countries with high starvation rates.

And the last time one of these nuts started showing me photos of "murdered animals" I said wow, I carry photos from my last hunting trip too - hang on I'll get them from my truck. He took off before I got back though.

+100

That is sheer poetry...

Killed and dressed small game myself and catch and eat fish. No big game though.

I can fuck up a chicken though! Although the hunt isn't very thrilling and I find that I need to use a bow and arrow as most acceptable hunting rounds tend to make them explode...

And why the hell is leather so expensive? I mean it isnt like they are hunted on the Serengheti for their skins... they are in a pen... BANG! Your a hat! BANG! Your a jacket!

Actually the skins are the easy part - it's the fleshing out (separating the actual hide from the subcutaneous fat and meat) and hair removal that take a lot of time. Once the fleshing is done the actual tanning process is fairly easy with the equipment they use, but very time consuming if you do it by hand.

Seriously though - I never knew that and that definitely explains why full hide items are a hell of a lot more expensive than "patchwork" items... It also explains why my damn horsehide Waffen coat is so damn unaffordable...

Yeah, but it'll last you thru your grandchildrens generation if cared for properly... or at least longer than that chicken!

Anyway, with all the McJackintheBox being sold, there is no shortage of cow hide... but it still pisses me off that tanned whole grain is so f'n expensive.
