Interesting, as when I saw his comment about the image, I checked the image carefully for any copyright notice. Nothing. Just some decoration in the lower corner that looks like its tied to a theme camp or something. Checked info within the file, but no EXIF info and all the IPTC fields, including Author and Copyright were blank. At the site where it was hosted, no copyright notice nor ownership claim, but there was on the page an "all rights reserved" (site viewed with Firefox? others see something different?). No copyright claim on the image or part of the file. Doesn't seem a very good way to protect an image.Eric wrote:Thread restored as copyrighted images have been removed, as per copyright holders request (TOS, Section 8 )

AS a rule of thumb, everything is copyrighted until there is a note saying it isn't. I am no lawyer, but to my knowledge that's how things are in most jurisdiction.Canoe wrote:Interesting, as when I saw his comment about the image, I checked the image carefully for any copyright notice. Yup, Copyright is implicit in most countries. There are also "fair use" laws, but I don't know how they apply to the images that were removed.

All I know is that if someone tries to copy my proprietary cocktail mix, which I will be gifting to the community out of the righteousness found deep within my artist heart, and then share that tasty elixir with anyone else, for any reason, my lawyers are going roll over you like a pulsating disco bus over a hipster darkward wandering out on the dark dusty playa.
You have all been warned. Cheers, mates !!!!

Quick "Take a picture of it and post it to anywhere" you will be good as it will be copyrighted....Lonesomebri wrote:All I know is that if someone tries to copy my proprietary cocktail mix, which I will be gifting to the community out of the righteousness found deep within my artist heart, and then share that tasty elixir with anyone else, for any reason, my lawyers are going roll over you like a pulsating disco bus over a hipster darkward wandering out on the dark dusty playa.

Don't know how 'fair use' is defined, or would apply, but I found this definition.BBadger wrote:Yup, Copyright is implicit in most countries. There are also "fair use" laws, but I don't know how they apply to the images that were removed.
More interestingly, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that embedding a link on a site to view something on another site is not a copyright infringement as no copy has been made. Not even when the material on the other site is an unauthorized copy of copyrighted material and that copy is therefore a copyright infringement; the site hosting the copy is in violation, but any site with a link to the copy is not.Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship. It provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work.
The web is an interesting world.
More and more I'm seeing people using Creative Commons Licenses, not just for software, but for art and entertainment works.

Re: Fast Pass???
Lots of image copyright discussion for a post about Exodus. But Internet interactions can be like that.
I second the early Sunday Exodus thing. Worked great for me last year - left at 8ish, only 20 minutes of waiting.

Probably 99% of the images posted in this forum, used as avatars, signatures, etc are not being posted by the copyright holder, or with any attribution. Might as well disable them all.
