Thanks. I'm feeling great. I go back to work next Tuesday. It's is the longest I've been off work in over 15 years, and I'm bored out of my mind. I'm looking forward to being back.

Having the surgery, and needing to take so much time off work did mess up my plans for this year. I'm great full to of had it and I know my health will be better, and I'm sure it will enable me to enjoy myself when I finally get there.

Depends on where you work here. Our province has very good medical coverage. All the basics are covered, and if someone needs to be off work for an extended period of time, they can get some sort of subsidy. It's geared more for low income households. Where I work, we get 3 weeks of sick leave per year, but it's earned monthly, not in advance. I've had tons of Dr. Appointments and been sick a fair bit over the last year, so I had no sick leave left. We also have short term disability(STD), so we don't qualify for the provincial subsidy. I had to use a combination of vacation and leave without pay to cover my time off. Our STD doesn't kick in for 6-8 weeks, so I would have only been covered for a week:(
My surgery itself was paid for by the province. Unfortunately, that means I had no say in when, where or who performed it, or even what version of the surgery I received (there are 3 types, but the province only covers 1). I didn't even meet my surgeon until I was going into the OR. ... To me, that's pretty fucked up. Also, I had to wait 13 months from being referred, to time of surgery... That's considered fast. When I received the referral, I was told 1 1/2 - 2 years.
