Will Call the bung hole of BM
Lets talk abut the cluster f*&k will call will be this year..
In years passed, You would creep along in the gate line till the end of time.. Then have to pull out of the line and park.. Get in line for ever to pick up your ticket.. Then back to creeping to the gate.. That is so much fucking fun......
A will call line to a parking area just off the HWY would go a long way towards helping.. Not waiting until the last dog is shot to open that line..Being able to inter the gate line with out the other traffic going into the kill mood.. (Like ..Who the dose that guy think he is jumping in front of me..)
keep telling people BM isn't worth it.

When it gets REALLY bad, just close your eyes and remember that you can afford to go to fucking Burning Man every year and not have to suck mud out of a ditch just to stay alive.

Haha, "whinging"...

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM
Sorry to rain on your grumpy parade, unjon, but gate and will call have made some significant improvements in the last couple years. In fact, despite a peak population of over 56K last year and record numbers of will call ticketholders, gate and will call ran more smoothly and quickly than they have in many, many years (hats off to the staffers and volunteers who helped make that happen).

You make your bed, you sleep in it. Get paper tickets next time if it's such a problem.
Anyway, the goal of the gate is to maintain throughput, not address individual latency. A will-call exclusive would be a waste of that extra line -- a line that should also benefit the in-hand ticket holders. Plus, by the time you get to the end to pick up will-call tickets you're nearly at the end.

I've been in that line... the way I look at it is "Hey I'm in Black Rock City! Even waiting in the entry line is better than being home in the middle of winter!!!"

I vote we fire each and every one of those slackers working Will Call. And maybe Gate too (those guys are massively overpaid and rude!) Then we need to talk about the guys running the ice line, and how art cars never seem to come when you hail them unless you are rich, single and mostly naked. And the dust problem: why arent those idiots driving the water trucks also spraying down the open playa to the south? Complete dumbasses if you ask me, and obviously not enough trucks to to a workmanlike job.
Burning Man needs to get with the picture. I didnt pay all this money for such crappy service. And hire some cuter sparkleponies, too!

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM
I am perfectly willing to spend an antsy hour - even a few antsy hours - right outside the gate to avoid roughly a month of worry mounting into low-grade panic over whether my ticket will be delivered to the correct address after having just moved and then whether I'll somehow lose/misplace/forget it. And if I were coming from overseas and had two postal systems to worry over? Easy choice. Buying last minute through the OMG lottery? No choice.
My ticket got to me in the mail just fine last year but boy howdy was it stressful. Waiting in a stop-and-go line may be hot, tiring, and frustrating, but at least I know where my ticket is!
Similarly, I have a feeling that, when buying an after-market ticket from an unknown party, it may be safer to go the will call route. Can anybody confirm/deny this gut feeling? The "avoid fraud" FAQ complete steps around this question, presumably because nothing's a guarantee...

Wow.... then there are some folks like myself who are lookign everywhere for tickets and do not care if we need to wait a whole day in line to get in,.... yet people complain. Be thankful you guys are going, it is all about the Journey, enjoy the ups and downs of it
If folks are really so caught up in this part please note that there are folks who will gladly take these problems and concerns off your hand.

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM
Dunno... I think Will Call was the thing that ran least smoothly in my experience. The car line was about 2 hours, and I was assured that was lightening fast based on years, so a hat tip there. Will Call took me about 90 minutes though. It did not look like it should take that long. It was explained to me before, but I still don't see why someone can't go up the queue before the car goes through to get their tickets. This was quite a downer for my group, as we had 3 people w/ WC tickets. Luckily, there was more than 1 vehicle, but we met up by chance outside of Reno.
I understand there might be ticket difficulties that might muck things up, but surely any vehicles affected could park in the Will Call parking lot. Compare this to a party that is broken up, and has to find their rest of their party at an un-registered camp site. Seems like the former is far more desirable for all parties.
All that aside, there is one huge improvement they could make, and we can file it under not reinventing the wheel. 1 Line... when a window opens, burner goes up to that window. Some people that started in the queue with me went out at about half the speed. So yeah, maybe my experience was about as bad as possible.

I'm curious, what part of "Don't show up early" doesn't apply to you? I also believe your description of D-lot is not wholly accurate.unjonharley wrote:Hey why don't you take flying??mrchiff wrote:

Expect to get flamed if you share ideas that you think might help make things better. There seems to be an almost soviet mentality among many in this crowd. "It's got to be this way because that's the way it's always been," is the mantra.

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM
Yes, 2 hours in the entrance line is truly 1-3 hours faster than usual. Will Call typically adds 30-60 minutes, but it can be hard to say. I'm sure it sucked to wait 90 minutes at Will Call, but you still got lucky.kiss-o-matic wrote:Dunno... I think Will Call was the thing that ran least smoothly in my experience. Gate doesn't want you to leave your car to get your tickets after many, many instances in which someone left their car and could not find it. Cell reception is slim to none, and people get separated.

All the more reason to have a Will Call parking lot..Savannah wrote:

Start in the gate line, pull out, park, get your ticket and back into gate line..
Mean while people with ticket in hand can keep moving up..
Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM
According to the Gate website, there is a Will Call lot. (I remember it vaguely. I picked up my ticket at Will Call last year, but since I rarely drive, I didn't really focus on the lot.)

If you want to talk to Gate about anything, you could try the "contact us" link. GPE is unlikely to visit this site and take suggestions, so you'll want to go to them.
