I've got to say that I'm not at all a fan of that second post. YMMV.

Predominately white, with a smattering of asian and hispanic. Given that all those terms are fuzzy. And that that can be the ethic background of a single participant.
I think that thing about african americans and their churches has been a double edge sword. And I think african american culture is less monolithic than Harvey gives credit for.
Wonder what would happen if it became known that Will Smith (for instance) attended regularly (note: not an actual fact, I just made it up), would african american attendance rise? or would most african americans shrug and say something about his going white. (Possibly in a different way than I just did.)

my solution to the demographic imbalance is to saturate the Hizood with High Quality LSD.

Well I have to say that our camp seems ethnically diverse - although not as diverse as general population statistics would consider diverse. I would be 100% against any policy to restrict diversity, but I think other factors affect the diversity of BM.

That being said, I just spent a weekend trying to convince my brother in law to burn this year. He watched the videos and just said "you white folks are insane to want to camp there". This may or may not be indicative of the attitude that prevents more diversity.

Regardless of the fact that the burn is the last bastion where you don't have to be politically correct - I have never witnessed any outright racism at the burn, or heard so much as a racial slur there.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I have no clue. I think only big banks and corporations get bailed out. But Michigan has an unusual policy for handling failing cities by appointing a special manager. His part in the bankruptcy is also unusual. Though I don't know how this relates.

Not that I know of. Detroit wasn't bailed out, but General Motors and Chrysler, which are both headquartered in Detroit, were bailed out in the automotive industry bailout of 2009. As I'm sure you can imagine, the financial troubles of those two companies had nothing to do with the racial makeup of Detroit. :?

On a slightly different note...I didn't specify gender on our camp requirements. And, to my surprise..then later not...our camp turned out to be mostly women. I love their interpretation of BloodBath&Beyond! And, just let it flow.

I don't care what your race, gender or sexual preference is...so I don't ask. It is probably the last thing on my mind. Which is why I don't embrace the notion that you need to fill a quota. If your cool and can tolerate punk music, you're in!

For the record, our racial make up is Whities, Indian and Israeli.

Confession: We have Fords, Chevys, and (gasp!) even a Dodge or two in our camp. We pride ourselves on our diversity!

IMHO if someone wants to be an idiot and start some bad pooky over random labels, trucks make a lot more sense than dunning people due to their race. You are STUCK with your race (well, there is Michael Jackson I guess) but you can trade-in a truck on a whim.

Darned Dodge drivers anyway. (((-shudder-)))
