Okay.
I wore a face scrubber, basically a very small one-piece swim-suit; the scarf worked perfectly even though it was horrible and made out of dust.
The dome fell on him while he was smoking soma and he got covered in dust, so he's putting up dry wall next time. He's practicing it over and over in the kids' rooms and he gets covered in dust every time. And he gets covered in dust.
Sorry, that's just as confusing in translation. Babelfish, you've failed me again!

Two months on, and I'm still kicking out the jams.
I have taken to putting cushions underneath the foot of my bed, so that I'm sleeping at an incline \
But seriously, the best thing that has helped: I bought a humidifier!
Since getting a humidifier, I'm coughing a lot less.

You can actually buy a playa lung face mask... http://www.playalung.com/products-page/ I bought a few replacement pads and it worked. I also brought my asthma machine with me and a nettie kettle

Bling wrote:t "respirable crystallized silica (RCS)" is nasty stuff and best avoided if possible. Folks who work as sandblasters, for example--day in and day out for YEARS--are at risk for silicosis.
But here's my question for you: How do you know that the Playa contains RCS?. From my research, it looks like it's next to impossible to determine whether a sample has it or not. See Table 3 in this chart to see what I mean. http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/silicacrystall ... index.html
So, how do you know?
Exactly. Particle size is everything.
Why do I suspect it may be fine enough to pose a risk? A few things: Believe it or don't I've read that even the talcum powder people use to dust their baby's ass posing a risk. The thick coat of stuff on your car at the end of the week has about the same consistency as talcum. very fine.
I also note how much stuff you see at night when there really isn't any wind - the particles are just sort of floating there. Again that means they are small enough to get aspirated.
Comparable risks - farmers. Out plowing their fields with a thick cloud of dust around their tractor. (One of the occupations with a higher risk of developing silicosis because dust that is fine enough to easily float about is fine enough to cause the disease.)
Finally all the people that develop "playa lung". Which is either simple infectious spread from so many people in close proximity and immune systems taking a hit after a week of 'living large' or it's from the dust. As far as the dust both the silica and the fine organic matter is a possible culprit.
So yeah, ET is a little OCD there. It happens. I remember the time I was waiting for my first HIV test to come back (after plenty of exposure working at Highland Hospital in East bay.) Paranoid fantasies gone wild for a while.
I just wear a 2 band dust mask (suitable for drywall) during storms. I also wear both ear plugs and earphones when running a chainsaw or shooting, so I guess I'm more careful than many with these things.
Re: Playa Lung ??!!??!!!???
Silicosis is primarily contracted from glass particles or minerals close to this hardness.
The materials are mostly heavy enough to be controlled relatively easily.
The safe exposure levels to such materials is 0 parts per million.
I can't address the danger of the playa, but i don't think it rises to that level.
There are doctors that always wear a surgical grade mask on the playa though.

Re: Playa Lung ??!!??!!!???
Last year I had no breathing issues. This year I was basically fine also, but had something akin to a sore throat, but it was more like muscle pain in my throat that grew during the week (none for several days, then becoming fairly painful the last few days). Very minimal smoking while I was out there, so that surely wasnt the cause. I used shemaghs & masks, but only when things got really dusty. It quickly began to subside after I left the playa and was gone about 3-4 days after I was back in Defaultia. No idea the cause, etc, but it'll be something I pay attention to next year to see if it repeats.

I developed a cough at BM this year and was wondering if it was the dreaded Playa Lung or simply a URI from proximity to so many people (not to mention a compromised immune system due to sleep deprivation, exertion, various overindulgences). It had characteristics that were suggestive of both -- on the one hand, it seemed to develop into a "regular" cold (sniffling, congestion) towards the end of the week, yet on the other, all symptoms disappeared suspiciously soon after I left the dust (and once I had blown all the grey crud out of my sinuses).
I wonder if it's a combination of things -- if the dust irritates the mucous membranes in the throat/sinuses (and maybe, in severe cases, bronchi and/or lungs), I imagine that would cause symptoms, but might it also increase the risk of infection?

And people are still dumb enough to camp on a DRY LAKE BED with cancer causing silica dust??? Just look what it does to your car.......that's what your lungs will look like. BM should be held on a orange grove or corn field SOMEWHERE, but a dry lake bed - very dumb
